Husting

Husting
Assembly of his men called by a lord; later a court, specifically one of the courts at London, dating perhaps from the 11c. Its use probably arose from commercial exchanges between Londoners and Scandinavians. In time it became the place of authority for commercial matters in the city of London - the place where matters of debt and disputes over land were settled and cases involving foreign merchants. Its importance was such that it met during the 12c in the Guildhall on every Monday. Suitors were seated on four benches - a relic of a much older proceeding where justice was sought before a lord.
